Theory

In sec. 1.1 I will give an introduction to the theory of laser cooling. Sec. 1.2 first gives a description of the collimator, the cooling device that formed the main part of my research, and then focusses on the theory of the collimator. The trajectory that the laser light follows in the collimator is described in sec. 1.2.1. In sec. 1.2.2 the trajectories of the atoms are calculated.
